Esri introduces Drone2Map to process aerial images
Drone2Map incorporates Pix4D’s powerful image-processing engine to analyze images taken from drones and convert them into a variety of 2-D and 3-D maps.
The final products delivered by Drone2Map include digital surface models, 3-D point clouds and meshes as well as orthomosaics, which are stitched images that have been geolocated and corrected for distortions that result from varying camera locations.

The Simplest Drone Of All Time?
Following 100 years of flight, drones are making us question everything we know about aircraft. Sure, most military drones still resemble pretty typical planes, but we're also seeing all sorts of alternative approaches to flying, like tiny quadcopters that can perform remarkable acrobatics no stunt pilot could dream of.
Without human payloads on the line, relatively low-cost drones are spearheading a mass wave of experimentation in flight.

Maryland High School Offers Drones 101
In the classroom are two teachers, 12 students and four flying robots.
At South River High School, located in the Annapolis, Md., suburb of Edgewater, a group of upperclassmen is learning how to make and fly quadcopters.
The course, "Introduction to Unmanned Aerial Systems," is supported financially and materially by Annapolis-based communications and engineering company ARINC. Consider it a shop class for the future.
The students aren't just learning how to pilot the drones. When one team wanted to add a camera to their Flame Wheel, they used a 3-D printer to make taller landing gear that could hold the camera.

What are Drones
https://dronewars.net/aboutdrone/
What are Drones?
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS), also known as drones, are aircraft either controlled by ‘pilots’ from the ground or increasingly, autonomously following a pre-programmed mission.
While there are dozens of different types of drones, they basically fall into two categories: those that are used for reconnaissance and surveillance purposes and those that are armed with missiles and bombs.
The use of drones has grown quickly in recent years because unlike manned aircraft they can stay aloft for many hours (Zephyr a British drone under development has just broken the world record by flying for over 82 hours nonstop); they are much cheaper than military aircraft and they are flown remotely so there is no danger to the flight crew.
