What is Baseline Assessment?
Baseline Assessment is the method used by teachers to find out your child's learning needs when he/she first starts school. The assessment will normally be carried out within the first 6-8 weeks of starting school. From this assessment teachers will know what your child can understand and is capable of and from this plan effectively for his or her learning needs. Your child may not even realise they are being assessed because the school will make it seem like part of normal classroom activities.

The Baseline Assessment forms have been drawn up with the help of a group of Birmingham Educational Psychologists. They will help to identify Looked After Children who need extra support, to enable them to achieve educationally. They will also help with monitoring the value added of additional support and facilities provided. The assessment should be commenced at the end of a pupil's second month in care.
