Ohio Guidelines for Library Media Programs
http://www.ode.state.oh.us/Curriculum-Assessment/school_library/
Ohio Guidelines for Effective School Library Media Programs
Ohio Department of Education? Office of Curriculum and Instruction has developed Guidelines for Effective School Library Media Programs. These new guidelines were completed in December of 2003 and distributed to the districts in September of 2004. The new Library Guidelines represent a standards-based education (SBE) approach to school library programs. The project includes three parts:
- The Library Guidelines which define what students should know and be able to do as a result of an effective school library media program, and identifies conditions necessary to establish quality library programs;
- The Library Toolkit which provides the evidenced-based research that supports the Library Guidelines, and practical examples for implementing the Library Guidelines; and
- The Alignment Guide which aligns the Library Guidelines with Ohio Academic Content Standards.

http://mte.anacortes.k12.wa.us/library/dewey/deweystory.htm
A Story about the Dewey Decimal System
Complete Library Skills Activities Program by Arden Druce who cited it from School Library Journal, February 1961.
Some years ago Mr. Melvil Dewey devised a system of classifying books which is used in many libraries. He choose certain main subjects and numbers, so that all nonfiction books on the same subject would be together on the shelf. He choose these subjects by imagining himself to be a prehistoric or primitive man. He asked himself questions he thought such a man would have asked.

Since "my" kids are always ready for a good challenge and a good game, I decided to try teaching the Dewey system as a competition.
From the first time we played it, the game was a success with third, fourth and fifth grades. The third graders even caught up with the upper grades, often gaining enough confidence to challenge other grades.
