Rule Britannica?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8150129.stm
Rule Britannica?
Encyclopaedia Britannica has been ranked the 10th strongest consumer brand in the UK. With the internet dominated by free reference sites, what's its appeal?
In a world where Wikipedia is THE first port of call for many millions of internet users, a paid-for encyclopaedia, such as Britannica, risks looking like an ageing and ailing relative.
But a (2009) poll of Britain's top consumer brands has placed Encyclopaedia Britannica in 10th place.

Erin McKean: Redefining the dictionary (online video)
http://www.ted.com/talks/erin_mckean_redefines_the_dictionary.html
Erin McKean: Redefining the dictionary
Dictionary editor Erin McKean has an infectious passion for words. At the helm of the Oxford American Dictionary, she's helping to reshape not just the traditional reference library, but our very language.
Paper dictionaries, she says, have kept our stock of words trimmed down to the size of, well, a dictionary. But with electronic, interconnected reference works, our supply of words has become limitless -- a prospect that clearly thrills McKean.
