Lessons Learned using VoiceThread for iPad
"Rachel, my 8 year old daughter, just finished reading “Christmas in Camelot” (a Magic Treehouse book) this weekend and was VERY excited to tell me all about it. It’s been a few years since she last made a VoiceThread book report, so since the VT iPad app is now available I figured this would be a perfect chance to put it through its paces. We had fun and were successful making the VoiceThread book report.
Here are a few of our lessons learned.

VoiceThread as a Digital Portfolio
http://bit.ly/9eSnys
VoiceThread as a Digital Portfolio
I’ve been twittering about using VoiceThread as a digital portfolio for our Student-Led Conferences this semester.
In the past, my students have used Photostory3 to show and talk about their learning as a starting point for their Student Led Conference with their parents.
The more I considered VoiceThread, the more it’s interactive features appealed to me. Using Photostory3 meant a final product. Nothing more added, no room for comment by parents and unless you sent the exported movie file, or embedded it on a wiki, no way for other family members in different parts of the country or in other parts of world, to see it.
Using VoiceThread was easy! We’ve already used it several times this year, so the “tool” and how to use it was already established. Here’s the step by step organisation we used to complete a digital protfolio for each student in Room202.

Using Voicethread for Digital Conversations
One of the best free tools available to teachers and students who are learning with the world rather than about the world is Voicethread. Known as a “group audio blog,” Voicethread allows users to record text and audio comments about uploaded images.
Voicethread has two distinct advantages for classrooms that are communicating and collaborating across counties, countries or continents.

VoiceThread Extends the Classroom
http://www.edutopia.org/voicethread-interactive-multimedia-albums
VoiceThread Extends the Classroom with Interactive Multimedia Albums
VoiceThreads might best be described as interactive media albums. They are essentially online slide shows of images, documents, or videos that enable viewers to comment on any slide (or at any point in the video) by typing, recording an audio or video comment, or drawing on the image itself.
Teachers have been early adopters of the easy-to-learn technology, which has led the company to launch Ed.VoiceThread.com, a secure site just for educators and their students, says VoiceThreads cofounder Ben Papell.

With VoiceThread, group conversations are collected and shared in one place from anywhere in the world. All with no software to install.
A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate pages and leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too.
Users can doodle while commenting, use multiple identities, and pick which comments are shown through moderation. VoiceThreads can even be embedded to show and receive comments on other websites and exported to MP3 players or DVDs to play as archival movies.
