BuddySchool
http://www.buddyschool.com/
BuddySchool, a platform for people who want to study or tutor online.
In BuddySchool teachers and students meet to study online.
The possibilites during the lesson are limitless. Usually the teacher and student would be talking on Internet communicators (Skype, MS Messanger etc.), but they could also be chatting, co-browsing or even meeting face-to-face. BuddySchool makes no restrictions, only keeps track of the time and informs them when it is up.
BuddySchool helps teachers and students meet, schedule lessons and take care of payments, but during the actual lesson they use IM (Instant Messaging) and Internet telephony (or VoIP: Voice over IP) applications like Skype, MS Messenger or Google Talk. There is no need to install any additional software beyond that.
Payments for lessons are carried out between the teacher and student, using the method of their choice (PayPal, Credit Card, Bank transfer etc.). BuddySchool helps to keep track of all payments by a system of invoicing.

Studeous is completely free. We don't care if your entire school runs on it, we will never charge you
The only information people can see is your name and email address, and you can even make your email address private if you want. As a teacher, you have total control over who has access to your class page and any content you post. You can remove your account at any time.

Curriki
http://www.curriki.org
Curriki, a play on the words curriculum and wiki, is a nonprofit organization that is building the first and only Internet site for Open Source Curriculum (OSC), which will provide universal access to free curricula and instructional materials for grades K-12.
We are focusing initially on developing an online repository for K-12 curricula in the areas of mathematics, science, technology, reading and language arts, and languages. We want this repository to attract everyone from educators, students and parents, to programmers, instructional designers, authors and public officials throughout the world to contribute or freely access quality learning materials.
Curriki is different in two ways:
(1) we focus on a complete curricula solution, not just a textbook or lesson plans, but a comprehensive course of instruction and assessment. Curriki.org will include easy-to-use tools for creating curriculum packets out of content assets available on the site.
(2) We have a unique approach to curriculum development, distribution and evaluation that is represented by the organizations 3-D model: curriculum developed through community contributors, delivered globally and whose impact is determined by project and by individual.

ELGG
http://elgg.org/
ELGG : Started in March 2004
The concept behind the system is to develop a fully customizable learning landscape. To achieve this Elgg is a hybrid of weblogging, e-portfolios and social networking.
It is hoped this combination of features will provide an engaging environment for learners to create their own learning space and then connect to others, forming online communities of learning.
There are two options to get an Elgg account. You can register for an individual account hosted by Elgg or you can take the system and install it on your own server. Elgg is an open source application.
Elgg has been developed to serve as a stand alone personal learning landscape or as a complimentary addition to existing learning environments. The emphasis with Elgg is very much on the learner. Elgg looks to give learners the means to control and own their own development and growth through the use of everyday web technologies.
