A few years ago, another librarian friend and I decided to attempt to devise some way to help students realize how quickly the internet was expanding and how important it was to be an effective searcher.
We did a specific 'google' search (since that seems to be the search engine of choice for most of our students) and kept track of the resulting number of hits. I have done the same search at least once a year and thought others might be interested in the results.
I have found it to be an effective way to illustrate to students (and teachers) how important it is to be able to narrow the search.
